Adding PDF Files for downloading

1st step is to upload the pdf file into the media library

Once it is there, we need to display the URL of this pdf where it is located on a webpage so that others can simply click on it to download. You have to be VERY careful with the spelling and syntax f files such as this as they are also case sensitive.

Open up the page you wish this to appear on using the EDIT PAGE as you normally would, and at the top of the page is the ADD MEDIA box – Click on that to open it and you will see the files that have been uploaded here.

Click on the “Access” file that you wish to select and a blue tick appears along with a new menu on the right hand side. Here you can add extra information such as the title of the file, the description and stuff like that – should be fairly self explanatory by now as you seem to be getting on well with this program.

Now there are 2 way of getting this onto the page. I`ll show you both as there are some rare instances where the old way may be more productive, and its good to learn how this works. The old way was to simply “Copy” the URL and then paste it somewhere onto the page and this would then appear as a text link – Its how Dad used to do stuff but looks a little “clunky” as it displayed the whole URL into view and in some cases can look a little confusing if you have a long file name, but no harm in having a play with cutting and pasting the URL.

Cutting and pasting a URL looks like this

Once the URL has been pasted into place you need to highlight the entire line of text and then press the LINK button at the top as this will then activate that URL into a downloadable link and will look like this

https://www.paigntonheritagesociety.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Access-and-Design-Statement-1.pdf

If you use the PREVIEW button at the top right of this page you will see how it appears.

The more visually appealing way to do this, is rather than showing a very long URL is to sow the “Title” of the ling instead, and if you now use the same “Insert Into Page” button at the bottom of the Media Library menu

The easier way to do this now though is to use the link bottom right of that menu box that says “Insert Into Page
