Two walking trails taking you through the oldest parts of Paignton – Winner Street, Church Street, Fisher Street. – a rich history dating back to medieval times. Walk through the streets of old Paignton and soak up the atmosphere of ancient days. Totnes Road with Paignton’s first Police Station, Winner street the shopping centre in the 1800s, Mill Lane where the flour for Paignton’s bread was ground.
The oldest buildings in Paignton are in this area, the Bishops Tower from early 11th century, the parish church rebuilt in the mid 13th century and Kirkham House of similar age.
But not every building of interest has such age. Palace Avenue has many examples of fine Georgian and Victorian building. Although at street level most of the buildings are now shops, raise your eyes above the shops to see the real beauty of the original buildings.
