Thank you to everyone who came along to our Heritage Open Day on Saturday, 4th October 2025 at the Methodist Hall, Palace Avenue. We welcomed over 100 visitors and we are grateful to Dr Kevin Dixon, our guest local expert on the day and Steve Darling, MP for Torbay for visiting (both pictured below with some of the PHS committee members).
“WARTIME PAIGNTON” Book Launch
This book, which looks at wartime Paignton, was written by Jo Tucker in collaboration with Oldway School. Children from year 6 acted as a focus group and made some very helpful suggestions which were taken on board. The children attended the book launch which was held in Paignton Library on Saturday 10th May and included activities for the children and the author Jo Tucker who read extracts from the book.
The book was designed and published by Julian Rees with illustrations by Paul Snowden. It will be distributed free of charge to the local primary schools and will be available in local libraries.
This project was made possible by a grant from the Local Heritage Grant Scheme. A collaboration between Torbay Council, Torbay Culture and the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark. In turn made possible thanks to investment from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
